Antique Vintage The Game of Nations Playing Cards McLoughlin Bros.
Offering this hard to find complete set of early McLoughlin Bros. game known as the “The Game of Nations.” Instruction book says the Game of Nations: containing four Old Games with New Faces, Game of Nations, Game of Catch-All, Game of Monkey, and Follow Leader. The game features some of McLouglin’s best artwork. There is an edition of this game from 1898 called. “Game of Nations or Quaker Whist” but this set makes no reference to Quaker Whist, and I think dates earlier.
There are 52 cards, 13 in each of 4 suits, plus 2 blank cards. The “Ace” of each suit is a map of a region of the world (i.e., Asia, Africa, the Americas, Europe), and each “suit” should have 9 number cards and three court cards, as in a normal deck of cards, with designs appropriate to the geographical region featured in that suit. The cards have the original instruction booklet, that explains how to play several McLoughlin Bros. games, including this one.
The cards are in good condition, with wear consistent with age corner issues, wear, etc. The Asia group numbers 6-9 have been cut close and don't have a bottom border, this is done by the factory and not a kid playing around. The cards shown are representative of the set as a whole. The instructions are in good condition, but the box is poor – a mere remnant, no top or bottom.
